Inspired by the book Hotel Mariachi, radio producer Tamsin Hughes visited Mariachi Plaza in November 2015, where she lived for more than a week talking with mariachi musicians and others in this historic corner of Boyle Heights. Evangeline Ordaz-Molina, who was born just blocks from Mariachi Plaza and who wrote the Introduction to Hotel Mariachi, narrates this documentary, which will be broadcast to over fifty million listeners worldwide.

The proposed 8-story parking garage, offices, and condos replacing the ice cream shop, Santa Cecilia cafe, Libros Schmibros, and Juan Solis’s twenty-year-old murals would mean the end of Mariachi Plaza.
